Baked Alaska, anyone?
Here's the first pair of socks for the Summer of Socks KAL:

The yarn is from Cider Moon, a local yarn company near Columbus, up in Utica. The colorway is "Baked Alaska", and I used a size 5 circular needle (32", Addi Turbo). The yarn is doubled through the heel, and I added the 2 x 2 rib around the cuffs. The pattern design, which is toe-up, creates a great fit. I'm in love. As I mentioned in the last post, a friend designed them, so I can't share, as she is deciding how she wants to distribute the pattern. If you are curious and would like the directions, let me know, and I can direct you to the author. :-)
In the meantime, I'm going to pull out the skein I bought from last year's SOS KAL:

I think I may try adapting a more intricate pattern with the toe-up /one circular method. May take some thinking...hmmm....thinking? In summer? *g*
I'm a step closer to the Kauni. After I finished the socks, I swatched for the sweater. I know, most of us don't like the swatch step, but last night into this morning re-convinced me that it's important. I made my swatch, and did take the time to wash and dry it.
Last night, it looked like my needles were going to be too big...today, the dry swatch indicated that, no, I'm just fine.
*whew*
I've also measured a favorite sweater and translated the inches to centimeters so I can follow the pattern and (hopefully) get the size I want. You'd think I'd never knit a sweater before. Maybe it's getting the yarn from overseas...maybe because I love the colors so much, I don't want to screw it up and hate the thing when I'm done. (Anyone been there????*L*)
Onward.

That Mama E yarn is beautiful. I can't wait to see what you do with it.
Hate a project after it's done? Nah.....I'm hating mine now and I'm not even done the first sock. I made the cuff too short, but I'm too far in to rip back now. Maybe when they are done, I'll like them better.

Yay! They came out great! :) Must add that yarn to my "need to try" list. :)
Good luck with the sweater. :) And I can't wait to see what you do with the Mama E stuff too. I still haven't found a project worthy of the two skeins I bought last year.

Love those socks, yarn and pattern. Could you please direct me to the pattern's creator?
By the way, as a small child, the other kids in the neighborhood would sing to me: "Beth's a bossy bumblebee. Ouch-she is stinging me."
