Socks Rock!

Tap, tap, tap, shuffle, shuffle, slide
step, ball-change, step, ball-change
Hop Kick Hop Kick
T-w-i-r-l and splits!

Tah-dah! It's Summer of Socks, Week One! I am dancing because I have just finished Sock#1 from the easiest pattern I've ever used!!!!! Looky!

(This is The Sock and Sock 2B).

It's basic, yet elegant; toe-up construction means great fit; the yarn is luscious (Cider Moon, "Baked Alaska" colorway) ; it's done one one circular needle; and, the best part is: I didn't muck it up!!!!

(Well, I did a little at the start when I multiplied the wrong two numbers together while watching late night tv and ended up casting on enough stitches to create a sock for Herman Munster---a BIG sock for Herman Munster. The sad part is that I actually worked on the damned thing for a little while until it dawned on me that it was looking more like my head would fit into it better than my foot would. Alex, I'll take "Things that make you say *&%#$" for $100, please.)

(And while I'm confessing , I made the splits part up. Just in case you were wondering.)

But I digress.

I would share the pattern...but it's not mine to share. I would share the author's name so you could ask her for it , but I don't think the author is ready for stepping into this kind of public arena...yet. (And no, it's NOT me. Seriously...I'm way too low on the knitting food chain to think up my own pattern, much less make one work well. ) Suffice it to say that the pattern is wonderful, and my hat...er, sock....goes off to its creator. If I get any indication that she's willing to share at some point, I'll let you know how and where.

Digression #2:
My baby has been on a mission trip in the mountains of Jamaica with his youth group since last Saturday. They went to build a house for a family of 5 and will come home Sunday night. Here's Evan, at 4:45 AM last Saturday, before we met everyone at the church to head to the airport.

Look at that big grin (this is one of the first photos taken of him post-braces. ) He was so pumped to go!!!! I admit, it's been kind of a long week for us without him here.*sniff* but I know he's been having an amazing time.
Love him. Miss him.
Please say prayers for a safe return. :-)

My other knitting news involves the Kauni sweater that I'm almost ready to start.

(This photo comes from Margaret Velard's blog--apparently, she's one talented knitter!)

The yarn arrived from Denmark via NYC (Knitty City), arriving in MEGA skeins.
(The Beanie Baby is for reference, of course. See, they are circus-big!)
I've wound one already, and need to do the other. I did think about making smaller balls, but I wanted to make sure I was keeping the color progression intact. That may come around to bite me in the butt in the long run. Time will tell. I'm kind of sneaking up on this project, much like I would tackle getting up the nerve to venture off the high dive at summer camp: right now, I have ventured onto the ladder, both feet off the cement. Next step? Determining how big to make the sweater--oh yeah, I can stall that out for a day or two. Then comes learning how to knit Fair Isle designs. (Not even talking about the steeks yet. That's under "Things that make you say *&%#$" for $200, please.) Looks like that board is wa-a-a-a-ay up there...

I did join the Kauni KAL, hosted by Brenda, which I'm pretty excited about. Lots of great ideas and slow starters, like me. Good advice, too. I think I can breathe now and think about that next rung...

I'm goin'. I'm goin'.

Comments:
Yay! Your first sock looks great! :) Glad you didn't have any trouble with the pattern (If there was enough interest, I might be convinced to put it out there, but it would probably take a while to get it set up).

Hope your boy had a safe trip. Good luck with that beautiful sweater too. I almost went to Knitty City yesterday. ;)
